I get that you want to be an artist. I want to be an artist as well. Good to know we both are in the same boat.
Science is a useful subject no matter what you want to be. Science teaches you how to reason and ask questions. There are numerous mysteries in the universe waiting to be discovered and science helps us uncover them.
When you are an artist you are giving language to these mysteries and expressing what they mean to you. Like if you make a painting about the mysteries of the universe example how would a black hole look?
You can also use technology as a tool to make art example new media art or interactive installations. So, you are using science to question, technology as a tool to make and art as an expression.
In a way, science and art are complementary to each other e.g. Da Vinci used scientific knowledge is his paintings and inventions.
I completely agree with Simran. Science is always useful. It helps you learn about new things, but it’s definitely never science OR art. Have you seen some of the close-up photos of plants or crystals? They’re incredibly beautiful!
I’ve also heard of competitions at universities where you explain the research you do in the form of a cake. You’d have to be good at both science and art to be able to do that!
It doesn’t have to be mutually exclusive, which means, you don’t have to choose one or the other!
Art improves science, especially when you need to communicate your findings, and this is incredibly important for the success of science overall.
Also, for my favourite fusion of art and science, just google “petri dish art”. Amazing!
