      This is very difficult to answer, because even the scientists don’t necessarily agree on the best way to produce beef. It also depends on which part of the environment you won’t to protect.
      If by environment you mean “climate change” then remember that meat production, particularly beef production, is pretty bad for climate change, because cattle burp out a lot of methane, a strong greenhouse gas that you might have heard about at school. So to reduce the greenhouse gas impact (or carbon footprint) of beef production the only sure way of doing it is to eat a bit less meat.

      Having said that eating meat as part of a balanced diet is good for you and there is some land where we can only grow grass to graze animals and produce meat; either that or we grow forest, but then we would have to get our meat from somewhere else in the world, so it’s a choice.

      To cut a long story short, in my opinion, the hamburger company that is least bad for the environment would be the one that gets its beef locally from farmers that graze their animals on productive, fertile grassland.
