      Very good question!

You know, I don’t think I thought “I want to be a scientist”, at first!
Even when I was young, I liked looking at bugs, or seeing how things worked.
Then when I was a bit older, I loved reading about nature or science experiments, and learning about microbes.
Then, before I knew it, I was wanting to learn about them even more, and using even more cool stuff to do it, like microscopes and things, and eventually I was in university and learning about all sorts of interesting bugs and gross diseases. Fascinating!

I think the point is, I just kept following the stuff I loved, and it basically made me into a scientist without me realising 😀
