I don’t look at the control of diseases on products coming INTO the country, I mainly work on the bacteria that cause the disease once they are here.
But, according to the Food Standards Agency, any food coming from inside the EU has to meet certain regulations (so, it has to be safe for people) and can be checked at any point to make sure it is. Things like, the seller has to show that the animals were healthy, and that conditions were hygienic (basically, safe and free from diseases) and that the meat is safe to eat.
There are lots of stages where food coming into the country is checked for safety.
‘Prevention is better than cure’ – this is a famous old saying. So, eating less meat and dairy products which are produced locally in healthy and clean environments is an answer to good health and fewer diseases.
