Question: What coding programme do you use for your job?

Hi Rcorb,
I mostly use a coding program called ‘R’. It’s a program that is really good for doing statistics and analysing scientific data. A lot of what I do at the moment is writing a program so that people who don’t know how to use computer code can still use our research to decide what fisheries have a bad impact on the animals that live on the seabed. There are lots of different coding programs out there, there’s not one best program, but I think coding is a skill that is going to get more and more important for scientists!

I agree with Jenny, there are lots of different programming “languages” out there.
We also use R to draw pretty pictures from our data, and another handy one to learn is Python, which I use a bit and so do some of my workmates.
