      This morning I’m talking to you. Then I have a meeting about research. Then I have one about making a poster of the conference I’m going to. Then something about the nutrition course I run at Solent University. Then more I’m a Scientist.

      But it varies so much. I work with athletes a lot – it’s a bit quieter at the moment because a lot of them seem to be on holiday or out competing. I have a massive kitchen where I work that I use to teach people how easy it is to eat healthily / what the best foods for sports are. So I spend a lot of time in there.

      Today I am doing a mixture of I’m a Scientist chats, and preparing a presentation that I have to give tomorrow. I also have a Welsh language lesson later!
      Tomorrow I will be travelling to London and back to give the presentation – I’ll get up at 5am for the train, will spend about an hour at the meeting, then will travel all the way back to North Wales to get home at about 6pm! A lot of travel for one (important) presentation!
      On Wednesday I will probably be preparing another presentation that I need to give the following week.. I also have a meeting to plan some teaching activities.. I might have to do some preparation for a school visit.. and on Friday I have a Welsh exam!
      In between all of these things, I will find some time to work on my ‘day-to-day’ research. Working at a Uni means no two days are the same, there are always a variety of tasks to do!

      Let’s see, most days I will be sat at a computer for a while, looking at genomes and trying to organise lots of data so that it makes sense and tells us a bit more about the bugs we’re working on.
      Other days, I will be in the lab, getting DNA out of other samples of bacteria, or stressing them out to see how they respond.

      On top of that, I could be writing a scientific paper (doing that today!), doing some outreach with non-scientists (doing that one today, too!), reading about Salmonella some more, reading about programming, or writing a presentation or poster for a conference or lab meeting.

      On top of that, I am involved in some other projects, like:
      The environment committee or Green Impact scheme for my work, which means we’re trying to make science more sustainable/planet friendly;
      or organising events for other postdocs so we all meet up and do something fun together (and maybe even talk about science 😉 );

      A career in science is never dull!

      Hello!

      Every day is a new day and every new day means new things to do.

      Well, there are some things that I repeat like drinking my coffee, reading and eating my 5 in a day. My schedule today has a meeting about my next experiment, a workshop about how to make new technology with people, talking to you guys on I’m a scientist and attending a competition where people explain and present their research in 3 minutes. It is a long day today with very different things to do.

      Later I will go home listen to some music or watch an episode of star trek, cook my dinner and go to bed.

      😀

      Haha, great to see the varied answers already given by others. Today I argued with some other researchers about the real value of shared eating experiences, I listened to a researcher invited to talk about some ideas for art installations to communicate our findings, answered some questions on I’m a scientist and caught up with some partners of my project who run an organisation to reduce food waste in Ireland.

      Tomorrow I will meet a couple of students about their projects on how community gardens improve biodiversity in cities and try to prepare some workshops we will be running with partners of our project on future food systems in cities. No two days are the same 🙂 Right now its time to go to the gym and stop sitting on my behind!
